V's Multi-Culti Urban Hillbilly Cuisine

Should probably make this an actual poll, but I can't be arsed. Which of the following is not yummy mixed with scrambled eggs?

A. Mushrooms
B. Hummus
C. Tabasco
D. Onions
E. Bacon grease
F. English Stilton with apricot bits
G. Pesto
H. Worcestershire
I. Tomatoes
J. Parmesan
K. Black pepper (copious)
L. None of the above - use 'em all!

(Hint: There is only one correct answer)

[identity profile] blueeyedtigress.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'm guessing that your correct answer is "L".

I, personally, would be avoiding "C" and "K", but that's not what you asked ... ;]

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You are correct!

I find there are very few food items (generally only the sweet ones) that can't be improved with "C". Some need more than others. :)

[identity profile] moralanqua.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
B or G. Pesto and eggs were never meant to be together!

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I would have to disagree. :)

[identity profile] moralanqua.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ick ICK you fahreek! A million Italians are grabbing their ballsacks and waving their hands in the air emphatically.

But I really shouldn't say so much when my country thinks stuffing offal into a sheep stomach makes good eating... ;P

A million Italians are grabbing their ballsacks and waving their hands in the air emphatically.

At the same time?!?

Haggis is underrated, IMO. Wouldn't want to eat it too often, of course....;)

[identity profile] apricot-tree.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I went to the British store awhile ago and found vegetarian haggis in a can. *shudder*

[identity profile] blueeyedtigress.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Haggis is comfort food -- at least to we Exiles (to the umpteenth generation)! So nice that, in Canada, we can find it with relative ease ..... ;]

[identity profile] annechen67.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you'd like green eggs, heyla?
You should try them, [livejournal.com profile] moralanqua

disclaimer: i hate eggs

[identity profile] divinetailor.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
but my estimated, imaginary polyjuice-potion doppelganger would probably vote "hummus."

Re: disclaimer: i hate eggs

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends on the type of hummus. Garlic-heavy is good; tahini-heavy, not so much.

Re: disclaimer: i hate eggs

[identity profile] sdragon.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... now that is a good point. Now I'm tempted to consider it... maybe. >_>

[identity profile] bethbethbeth.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect your answer is "L" but I'd say "hummus" (which I like...just not with scrambled eggs)

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
See above. I'm picky about what kind of hummus mixes well. :)

[identity profile] tyellas.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Another vote against hummus, here. Does not compute!

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't knock it til you try it? XD

(Can you tell this was one of the use-all-the-leftovers-before-they-go-bad days?)

[identity profile] sdragon.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
B) Hummus - is the one thing I can't imagine how it would taste, and am not inclined to waste the eggs or the hummus to find out. Something about two relatively bland and textureless foods coming together makes me think of the white middle-class suburbia of dishes.

However, the Stilton with apricot would need careful handling... I have not tried sweet fruit in eggs yet, but the blue cheese should play nicely.

But... dear lord, please tell me you're not using them together!

I also recommend Sriracha (Thai chili sauce); it's like Tabasco, but more tangy and sweet, and with more body (garlic).

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I must admit, all those ingredients went into what I just ate. Yup, all of 'em. The hummus had a lot of garlic and lemon, so that worked OK because I didn't use very much. The apricot bits were the only remotely sweet thing, and I found they added a nice touch because, again, subtle....

Mmmm, Sriracha. I'm partial to...what do you call that bright red Vietnamese fire-starter stuff?

[identity profile] sdragon.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I think it's Vietnamese - the squeeze bottle with the rooster on it?

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's the stuff! It's got a bite. :9

[identity profile] dreya-uberwald.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I'd say all of them (but that's because I'm not very fond of eggs), but I'm guessing that you went for L :D

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
It was one of those last-day-before-grocery-shopping eat-all-this-stuff-before-it-goes-bad meals. And it was stunningly good. I'll have to do it again. :D

[identity profile] mybrokenlocket.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I would have to say L. Eggs go with everything. I like my eggs to have something crunchy with them, which leads me to some interesting culinary choices, i.e. pickle omlettes.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
They are the 'little black dress' of foodstuffs, aren't they? Pickles? I should try that!

[identity profile] catbirdgirl.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
leftover tortillas are GREAT in eggs. also leftover tortilla chips.

[identity profile] catbirdgirl.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
most of em would go on their own, some together some not.

I think tomatoes, eggs, pesto, parmeson, onions, pepper and mushrooms sound GREAT. with a little bacon grease if thats how you like em.

I personally adore stilton with apricots, but I dont think I'd put em in this. Chevre or cheddar or Mozz, sure.

I don't like worchestire much. Hummus and eggs, I dunno. Put lots of pesto in and yes, but then do you eat em like eggs or like hummus?

I might make eggs with spinach and polenta for dinner again with garlic and butter.

mmmm garlic.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a big bag o' polenta (Italian neighborhood, it happens) but I've never cooked it before, I have no idea. I'll give it a try one of these days.

[identity profile] catbirdgirl.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I adore polenta.

A few simple recipes:

cook it like oatmeal. add cheese or herbs or butter or garlic or all of the above. eat like mashed taters.

cook with less water, form into firm patties, fry in olive oil with garlic. sprinkle parmesan or romano and herbs on top.

I've even eaten it like oatmeal with milk butter and sweetener on it.

[identity profile] celandineb.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
The answer must be L, but F is the one thing that would never be in my kitchen -- don't care for Stilton and apricot bits would not improve it. All the others sound good, if maybe not all at once...

*tries to think if either Aziraphale or Crowley would be likely to eat this concoction*

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Believe it or not, I did all at once. :)

I don't think either would. In fact, I'm trying to think of a GO character who would, and all I'm coming up with is Brian or maybe Newt.

[identity profile] use-theforce-em.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. All of those ingredients sound fabulous. I have no idea what they might taste like all together, but damn it makes me glad that I'll be able to actually go grocery shopping tomorrow.

But F, more than any of them, sounds like it would be too good for my tiny brain to compute. I must try that sometime.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's tangy, greasy, food-snob-horrifying heaven, I tell you. :)

[identity profile] apricot-tree.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
A. Mushrooms
B. Hummus (maybe - haven't tried it, but it doesn't sound good.)
F. English Stilton with apricot bits
I. Tomatoes

How do you feel about ketchup? My uncle used to drown his. :P

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I feel that ketchup is for the hash browns that really ought to be on the same plate. Actually - that's really all ketchup is good for, various potato products (and other fried goods like onion rings). It should be kept far away from everything else.

[identity profile] apricot-tree.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid of stilton. I read something once about special implements they used to used to remove maggots from the cheese at table and haven't wanted to get close to it again.

[identity profile] shadowvalkyrie.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Most of that sounds really disgusting with eggs... and that comes from a person who eats eggs+leftovers at least once or twice a week. I've grown quite fond of eggs and fish, even though most people think that horrifying. ";-P

[identity profile] aineotter.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder about hummus and eggs clashing texture-wise, but in small quantities I bet the hummus texture is overwhelmed (I'm personally more repulsed by certian textures than nearly any flavour- that's what makes lima beans inedible). It actually dosen't sound bad at all to me otherwise, but then I'm told that I eat odd things...and I'd probably substitute this awesome habanaro hellfire sauce I have for the tabasco...

[identity profile] quantum-witch.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you well enough to have said "L". Though I have to say I hesitated over the concept of cheese with apricot bits combined with eggs. Then I realised eggs are virtually the perfect combo food, and remember that people stare at me funny for putting dill and mayonaisse on mine.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_silverfox/ 2007-05-03 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
K. The words pepper and yummy do not fit into the same sentence.

[identity profile] woodencoyote.livejournal.com 2007-05-03 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Onions. I hate onions
