New Year's resolution: be tolerant of the silly stuff that comes out through the cracks while you're working frantically on something else.
See, I don’t like songfics. Never have. Sticking lyrics in there slows down everything, it’s too often an excuse for the worst kind of indulgent wangst, and if the reader doesn’t know the song there’s no excuse for a point. Don’t even get me started on the anachronisms—which are fun if there’s a reason, too often there isn’t. (I see one more CD player or iPod and one more use of whatever this year’s big US prom slowdance song is in Hogwarts c.1977, I break someone’s legs.)
Any genre I hate that much, I’ve condemned myself to write eventually. The problem with this one is, given the choice, I prefer my music live.
So there’s this. Sweet Jesus.
Be-Bop: Two Decades in Five Performances
Fandom: Good Omens
Characters: Crowley and Aziraphale
Rating: PG for UST, drugs, and rock’n’roll
Summary: Aziraphale and Crowley have a soundtrack, whether they like it or not (and they mostly don’t).
A/N: What was I thinking? I was thinking songfics tend to lack historical context for the music involved, that’s what. But really, it makes me giggle and that’s the key. The last scene is an homage to one of my favourite movies.
( Aziraphale was furious )
Okay. Enough goofing off.
