Also...

Halloween is coming up again. What should I be?

Last year I was a Ringwraith and G was a Jedi. We had a crossovertastic drunken swordfight in the middle of the floor at a packed rock club. My costume made me pretty blind, which made the sword fight even better--his glowing lightsaber was literally the only thing I could see.

That'll be hard to beat.

If you still have last year's costume, you could probably adapt it quite easily to be a Dementor. Or you could go as Crowley. I think you'd make a good Crowley...

I do still have it, and I suppose to be a Dementor I'd just have to give up the pointy boots and the gauntlets and the sword. But I'd still be blind. XD

Crowley? That has pros and cons. Might require too much explanation to non-fannish friends. Not as much fun without an Aziraphale. OTOH -- now that I think about it, who says I have to do his human form?

Very nice feathered wings are readily available (in both black and white), and yes if you could find an Aziraphale to go with it would definitely be worth the trouble.

Me, I'm having the problem of a surplus of costumes and an insufficiency of venues. I don't think we're getting to dress up at the office, I feel compelled to wear my pink Romana costume at the one Halloween party I know I could go to, and I'm dressing my mother in the Ten costume I'm assembling just to have the vicarious thrill. And I need to find someone to go to the Ren faire with me so I have the excuse to wear my absinthe fairy outfit now that I've got the good wig and corset.

I had two costumes last year--the pirate gear I wore to work the actual Halloween night, a Tuesday, which is the late night shift when I still had the typefettinge job.

I'll be at the same packed rock club this year too - a friend of mine's band has had the Halloween residency there for years, it's a tradition. And this year G's band is opening for them. So I have to look impressive.

My favorite high-concept costume was in '04 when I went as an Entwife for Kerry.

There was a nice Treebeard costume at the Dragon*Con parade this year. I toyed with the idea of working up a dryad costume for the Phoenix Rising masquerade last May (inspired in part by my water sylph costume from Halloween 2002) but decided a green fairy would be more fun -- and I'd really love to find an excuse to wear that outfit again.

I've gotten spoiled by previous years when I was able to visit a ren faire in October and go to that one party and dress up at work -- one year I recall managing to find at least three or four costuming opportunities in the month, including a friend's party the weekend after Halloween. I'm thinking stealth costume on Halloween at work -- my glen plain trousers and vest, with the Doctor hat and scarf to be added that night for the benefit of trick-or-treaters when I'm answering the door -- and I'm really on the fence about the party since it's likely to be my one good dress-up chance this month. (I have no one to go to TRF with this year. It's saddening. I should maybe actually ask my friends.)

Or you could go as Aziraphale with Crowley-as-serpent wrapped around your... neck. *g*

Hee. That's funnier than you know. ;) But I can't be Aziraphale! I have dark hair and good cheekbones!

Actually, I'm kind of seriously entertaining this Serpent of Eden idea. Everybody gets a snake and an apple, right? (And it would fit my habit of good but wildly impractical costumes.)

Also on the snake theme, I am also toying with the idea of going as a big honkin' Deathly Hallows spoiler.

you what?

Well, I've got the hair and the nose...a toy snake, some fake blood....

...and thou?

yeah, sorry...i'm nowhere near as...well...shocked. as i seem, that is. it's been a damn peculiar week and i feel like i've been gutted and stuffed with bent pins and cast-off teeth, so things are hitting me oddly.

i was just thinking that if you do that, i'd have to go as Harry. and then i was seeing the impossibility of my even pretending to be a Gryffindor. ever. ;)

too bad you haven't got a real snake. too bad i haven't got a real snake!

I told my sister back when she got her first snake that someday she should pose for an Eve photo with it and an apple.

Also, like this?

Yay Crowleysnake! ... Though that'd probably be a very uncomfortable costume.
