...OK, I was trying to hold off on this, but I really do just have to get it off my chest.

Y'all know I'm pushing 40, right?

I can't do this fandom thing anymore.

It's not that it makes me feel childish or anything. Worse.

No, it's that certain postings I've read around the internet lately (a most excellent one, for example, on the abuse of women that is Firefly), made me realize that I've been in deep, deep denial about the fantasy/SF genre as a whole, and its "ideas." It is connected to surrealism, which is a masculine theft and alienation and cruel parody of women's daily reality. For me to spend my days in stories about hobbits and wizards and angels and demons is indeed an indication of how deep my male-identified sellout to the patriarchy has been. My imagination has been colonized, and I have been in collusion. The self-negation of my phallocentric pornography is nothing compared to the travesty of my escapism.

From now on, there will be nothing but concrete women's truth in this LJ. Nothing but childhood sexual abuse, reminiscences about my mother, and rude things men say to me on the bus. Also, recipes. Vegan ones.

Oh, surely you wouldn't go so far as to include vegan recipes.

Oh, you underestimate me!

I have a wonderful one for cookies that includes no flour, sugar, animal products, water, fruit, grain, and don't even require use of any fuels to heat. The truth is, our ancestors knew that we are really from the mineral kingdom when you get right down to it, and what those estranged from natural call "rocks" we used to know as sustenance from the very breasts of the Mother.

Rocks have feelings, too. :(

Yes, but they survive the perilous journey through our digestive systems far better than vulnerable plants and animals.

Flax seeds are invincible.

You do know that "mineral" is derived from "MEN U RULE," right? Every time you eat a rock you're reinforcing phallocentrism and LOLspeak.
