Cat out of the bag.

Believe it or not, it's been almost a year since Madimi came to live with me. (3/9/08)

Yup, she doesn't believe it either.

For all her well-documented mischief, there IS something weird and angelic about Madimi that blows my mind to this day.

In all that time...she has never barfed.

That's right. No hairballs, no hacking, no puking, no ralphing, no yakking, no hawking, no horking, no regurgitations. Eveything that's gone down has stayed there, and there have been no surprises for my bare feet in the dead of night.

Is this normal? Is it healthy? Every other cat I've ever lived with has left some sort of visceral commentary somewhere. The lack seems downright unnatural.

She's so gorgeous and shiny! And I want a non-pukey cat! Mine throw up, oh, once every two days.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't ask the universe for a non-pukey cat, but wow, it's nice to have one. :D

Yes, she's very shiny. And soft. Except for her sharp and pointy bits.

[identity profile] silverwerecat.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
First of all: Happy Anniversary, Madimi! Here's to more years of mischief and, well, bags. ;)

Second: love your icon.

Third: Some cats don't barf, unless they get sick. Long-haired cats get the hairball plague, occasionally, but lack of barfing wouldn't worry me. ;)

Kiss her from us.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
She LOVES THE BAGS. I can't throw them away until I know she's utterly bored with them. The weirdest thing is, she loves to lick from the inside. Sometimes, through the semi-clear ones, I get a glimpse of pink kitteh-tung.

Every cat I've lived with before has barfed, short hairs, long hairs, you name at. At least G's cat Digory horked long and loud enough beforehand to warn us to wake up and kick him off the bed before he yakked on our feet. >

[identity profile] silverwerecat.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Mine prefer boxes. ;) And are in dire need of box rehab. :p

My late Garfield liked to lick and chew on plastic bags too. A vet once told me, that, to some cats, plastic tastes like fish. But I have no idea how she new that...

[identity profile] aineotter.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Tastes like fish? huh. I think they just get to like particular textures; for some it's fabric, Morgause likes plastic bags, too. [livejournal.com profile] angilongs kitty likes to pop bubble wrap. Cats are strange.

[identity profile] catbirdgirl.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
buddha likes bags and boxes and is currently asleep in a suitcase. he also likes open drawers.

[identity profile] shadowvalkyrie.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Happy almost-anniversary from me as well! And either she horks the hairballs up somewhere you can't see (the cat I used to have put them all on top of wardrobes and shelves, and very quietly... the next big spring cleaning was a nice surprise), or you are the very lucky owner of a non-barfy cat. I doubt it's unhealthy: if she hasn't had stomach trouble in a whole year, the hair must just go out the other way.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I haven't found anything anywhere, so I'm going to keep assuming she's a non-puker, at least for now. Which is pretty lucky, and mitigates many of her other sins.

When G and I moved out of our old place, we found not only barf spots we hadn't dreamed of, but our couches full of years-old, completely-picked-clean chicken bones.

[identity profile] dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Man, she looks exactly like my cat! And she doesn't barf either. Plus, whenever she wants to do her business she just calls us, stares at the door and we let her outside! O_o Strangest cat ever.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Heee! Weirdo torties. Funny she goes out to do her business like a dog.

There's a guy in my neighborhood who walks his cat on a leash sometimes. Great big black-and-white tuxedo cat; very fluffy, maybe has some Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest blood. He seems perfectly content to stroll around that way.

[identity profile] rusty76.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly what you have is not actually a cat, but a cleverly disguised alien scout. Flee while there's still time!

[identity profile] quantum-witch.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
They're all aliens. Mine leave crop circles in the litter box.

[identity profile] apricot-tree.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks like she has very (beautiful) fine, short fur. That's probably why. Enjoy it while you can. Happy kitty anniversary.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you - I am enjoying it, so far. Her fur is very fine and silky, but she has medium-to-long hairs on her chest and belly.

[identity profile] labellerose.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww...sweet tortie! **Loves** May she have many more happy and bag-filled years with you.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
*snuggles* As long as I keep bringing home the bags, I think she'll be happy. :)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_silverfox/ 2009-02-10 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And she's still the prettiest, most adorable tortie in the world ... or at least that I know of. ;)

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
They're really special little beasts. Check out [livejournal.com profile] tortielove for more fine examples!

Just poking my snout in again to ask whether you're interested in playing in the NO reboot, or I should put Aziraphale and Brian up for adoption. (Sorry to keep bothering you, but I want to be absolutely sure before handing a character over to a new player.)

[identity profile] dreya-uberwald.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she's so beautiful. I love her expression in that second photo.

It's funny, but my Cleo was never sick in the house until she was about six or so. However, since then hairballs have been about a once every two month occurence (I'll never forget the time she projectile vomitted into my shoe - I still swear she strategically aimed it for maximum 'squealing human' amusement value).

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
She's saying, "My relationship with this bag is private. No paparazzi, please."

Uh oh. Madimi's only about three. We'll see what happens. Both the cats I lived with before were champion barfers all their lives, though. Marlowe was the only cat I ever saw do it while walking, without stepping in it. For him and Digory both, it was quite the performance. I think they were rating each other, on length and volume of horking, strength of convulsions, texture, consistency, and warmth.

[identity profile] ea-lyons.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Some cats barf, some don't. I've got a whole pride that don't barf unless they're sick. :)

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man! That's a trait that needs breeding!

[identity profile] ea-lyons.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it definitely does. Interestingly a good third to maybe a half of them are long hairs. O.o I haven't counted in a while. All I know is that there's lots of teeth when I go to feed them.

You know, they're outside cats so they might not be hacking hairballs where we can see it; hear it or step in it. Though, I really rather doubt that.

[identity profile] quantum-witch.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
GORGEOUS KITTY!!!!!!!!!

Actually, she could be barfing and then eating it again. I've seen all my cats try that trick. You're fortunate if you never see that happening.

I see you also finally got another bookcase. :)

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ain't she just? She knows it too, the little princess.

GAH! She's so prissy, though. When her wet food is about ten seconds past ideal freshness, she tries to bury it like a turd. Someone else's turd.

Yup, I got a bookcase! I happened to walk out just when a neighbor was hauling it out to the alley, so he helped me carry it up to my apartment instead. :D

[identity profile] foxxfire5.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
She is just too adorable. And as far as the puking, don't look a gift horse in the mouth lol. The only time not puking would be bad, as far as I know, is if she was making the noises like she was going to have a hairball but never did. (I worked as a vet assistant, so I'm knowledgable but not a vet. :3)

I have 3 inside cats, 1 pukes really easy, 1 does sometimes and or hairballs, the other hardly ever does.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not looking in her mouth at all if I can help it. Her breath is bad and her teeth are sharp. :D I just appreciate her barflessness very, very much. She doesn't have dry-heaves or fakeouts either.

I swear, with my last cat, the puking was recreational; a hobby even. He seemed really into it.

[identity profile] foxxfire5.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good, so she's probably fine. And like QW said, I suppose she could eat it if she did--though if she's finicky, maybe not. Mine that doesn't puke too much tries to scratch and cover the other cats vomit and anything else on the floor he doesn't approve of. (Once, one of my dad's socks. xDD)

Lol, with some of them it is. xD
