I didn't sign up for Yuletide this year. It was a combination of factors: the delayed signup process left a short time to write. And I stalked the requested-fandoms summary and saw that no one had requested the fandoms I really wanted to write and no one had offered the fandoms I really wanted to ask for.

Plus, y'know. NaNoWriMo. And 1992 Drawer Novel From Hell. And GOE. And jobhunting. I'm sad because I really enjoyed the last two years I did it, but sometimes you just gotta sit a dance out.

I DID goof off enough to go see HP & DH with [livejournal.com profile] divinetailor and family last night, though.

Fairly insignificant spoilers, but nonetheless )

Anyway, so...back to work!

OK, WOW.

From the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange (Snape/Hermione) comes just about the most innovative and labor-intensive present I've ever seen at a gift exchange.

Quilt inspired by recipient's fic (images SFW)

Way to raise the ante, mystery textile artist!

Huh, what? Did JKR just say something?

*grins*

I've skimmed a number of reaction essays, from the furious to the rapturous, and as far as I've seen, everybody seems to be missing the most important angle.

Do you realize what this means, people?

IT MEANS YOU CAN WEAR YOUR HOGWARTS COSTUME TO THE PRIDE PARADE NEXT YEAR!

Once again, I'm vulgarweed at GreatestJournal and now, InsaneJournal too. Friend at will. There's also a mirror of switchythings at GJ, and soon there will be of go_exchange as well.

Still been a craptastic week, but I still managed to get a few straggling birthday drabbles written. More forthcoming!

For [livejournal.com profile] maelipstick: HP - Snape/Lupin, a skin-care product with mysterious ingredients (Rather DH-compliant, if irreverent, so SPOILERZ. Also risque.)

For [livejournal.com profile] dreya_uberwald: GO - something with Hastur and Ligur (tasteless reference to recent real-world events my own responsibility)

For [livejournal.com profile] waxbean: HP - Hermione/Snape - a glimpse of a continuation from the "Ravenous" universe.

so there's nothing outside the cut )

So yeah. Flawed and sprawling, the whole series, maddeningly frustrating and still worth it all many times over.

Lessons learned from rock festivals? I don't care how hot it is, it's still physically impossible for me to stay grumpy while Sonic Youth is playing. Even if it's not one of their best nights.

Also: strapless bras are great in theory, but there must be some art to wearing them that I have never mastered, because I've never found one that doesn't migrate towards my waist, dragging my boobs down with it and making them look saggy when they aren't, and isn't that the very opposite of what a bra is supposed to do?

Appropos of nothing, from "Old Possum's Book of IMpractical Cats": I'm in love with these guys. Little cuddly kits are great but I want a Viking lynx!

I've written three more birthday drabbles, all of a crossovery flavo[u]r.

For [livejournal.com profile] vivien529: A GO/HP drabble (Minerva thinks that angel's got a little Slytherin in him!)

For [livejournal.com profile] signifier (who I get to see in August!): J.K. Rowling via J.L. Borges - Snape and the Aleph (also owes a conceptual debt to "The Three Versions of Judas")

For [livejournal.com profile] blueeyedtigress (who I get to see tomorrow!): GO/LOTR - Aziraphale and Crowley having a cuppa with Frodo

Productive? I think so.

...and I kinda feel it too, because that's how tired I am. I'm waayyy behind on the drabbling, but that's because of the last 48 hours, I've been at home and awake for about maybe 5 of them. Yes, my friends have been feasting and feting (and other f'things) me pretty splendidly, including an 8-hour marathon of a BBQ in a beautiful yard in Humboldt Park yesterday. I woke up at 2 PM today with a huge grin on my face, feeling loved.

And someone anonymously bought me two months of paid LJ time! *squee* Thank you thank you thank you!

So here's the first five b-day drabbles, anyway. I WILL do them all if it takes me to next b-day. (And I'm doing them in the order the ideas hit me, not the order received, sorry!)

For [livejournal.com profile] musesfool: GO - Something with the Them and a birthday party

For [livejournal.com profile] kkpixie: TDS - happy, fuzzy Stewart/Colbert

For [livejournal.com profile] celandineb: GO - Aziraphale/Crowley, bananas

For [livejournal.com profile] teh_jenna: HP/US Politics - something involving Snape and George Bush

For [livejournal.com profile] use_theforce_em: TDS/LOTR - members of the Fellowship on the Daily Show

OK, more to come in days to come - enjoy!

Snape's birthday, is it? That's what Jo (and much of my friendslist) says.

So my first entry to [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis's Porn Battle might as well be a Harry/Hermione/Snape threesome, eh? (As much drama as pr0n, I'm afraid).

ETA: OMG! It is also the magnificent [livejournal.com profile] lillithj's birthday! I dedicate this smutlet to you!

Oh, sweet!

[livejournal.com profile] misscam announces: WANKATHON!

What a dangerously brilliant idea!

***

I am so burned out today. All I can do is stare. And I need to get alert somehow.

I know, I'll do a me-me meme.

Ask me a question about one of my fics. Any and all of 'em are fair game. Unwritten backstory, references, inspirations, motivations, etc. I'll answer as best I can (or try to get one of the characters to do it). Maybe I'll learn something new too.

Like lots and lots of people, I've been reading the ongoing revelations about truly trainwrecky onionlike layers of malicious batshittery in the HP fandom a few years ago...

[livejournal.com profile] metafandom has been chock full of essays lately on what this says about interpersonal dynamics in fandom, the cult of the BNF, the justifiability of anonymity. All of them, I find absolutely fascinating reading. Sometimes I nod vigorously, sometimes I shake my head just as vigorously.

On occasion the point has been made that the cult of the BNF is so overwhelming in HP that everyone can't help but fall prey when the situation goes bad. I disagree, kind of. It's really a matter of where one might have the good or bad luck to "live."

For length, and a tortured Urban Life metaphor )

And in other news, my fun with the Ultimate Fandom OTP Generator continues to bear fruit.

Check the comments for fabulous crossover crack:
