7 o'Clock and All is Well/Transformative Works Policy/Exchanges

I understand that this is Podfic Awareness Week - well, I hadn't heard of it, but [livejournal.com profile] fabu brought it to my attention that it exists. Go podficcers!

One thing that comes up a lot, I am told, is permission for transformative works based on other transformative works, and how helpful it can be for writers to state their policy on such things upfront. I'm going to add this to my userinfo, but I'll put it here for now too. This is the boilerplate that's currently going around, and I agree with it and put myself firmly in this category:

Anyone who would like to create any kind of transformative work (including but not limited to: podfic, art, remixes and fanfic) based on my fanfic is given blanket permission to do so. A heads-up is appreciated (but not required!) just so I can see what you've made.

No, you don't need to ask. I didn't ask any of the authors whose sandboxes I frolic in for permission, so why should I put myself above them in any way? (My ego does want to see it when you're done, though. :D)

Just in case anyone cares at this point, I've not been even the least bit prolific lately.

I am finding the Yuletide nominations/signups business even more confusing and alienating than usual this year, so I think I'll sit it out again this year, sadly. Which is fine - it's all about [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange and original fiction, baby!

How's by you all?

I think the actual process will probably look a lot easier once the form is up - at least I've always found the instructions more confusing than the forms on Yuletide. I'm just panicking about the deadlines (3 more scenes to go on my GOE-fic, then editing and beta ... but I might not find time for any of it except on Sundays - and that's actually less panicky than I was last year).

YOU GO, GIRL! You still have 3 weeks on GOE, sounds like you're doing great, and I"m looking forward to seeing it!

re Yuletide: I just really miss being able to see which fandoms were nominated before making my own nominations, and also being able see which fandoms were neediest and most-requested before making my own offers and requests. I gather from what I've read that that won't be possible this year, and that takes a lot of the pleasure out of it for me--I like seeing where the neediest and most-neglected links are and slipping into that niche if at all possible.

I am a bit disappointed with that as well. It helped me realise one of my requests was hopeless my first year and switch to something I actually wanted more. (And I'm curious how well it'll work without that. I'm always amazed that they find someone to match everyone despite the variety of fandoms.)

I see what they're trying to do with the nominations -- I suspect some people (me included, at times) nominated things with little real intention of requesting them. But I do hope they find some way of indicating the orphan-or-nearly-so requested fandoms during sign ups. The mods say a dynamic listing would be too hard on the server, but a static update would be useful, even if it were only daily.

What is making me splutter with frustration is that nominations have been 'nearly there' since September, as I recall. We could all have hand-written notes and walked to post them to our nearest mod in that time. Those of us who do a lot of flailing when we get the request, and then write extremely slowly, really don't want to be made to start late just because the ao3 software takes forever to debug.
