(no subject)

Today was the kind of day where, if you stay outside long enough, your vitreous humor will freeze totally solid and you can take a fork to your eyeballs without harming them. Seriously.

But now I am warm.

Wher do you *live?* :)

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Chicago. We specialize in colorful and vivid descriptions of temperatures that are really only a little bit subzero. :D

[identity profile] apricot-tree.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
In Seattle we reserve that kind of description for rain. :) Of course, a Chicago winter would kill most of the people who live here - if they didn't kill each other skidding around on the roads, first.

I hear you - where I grew up (mountains, VA) the big problem was ice storms, on roads that were literally "unsafe at any speed." Here at least people mostly know how to drive: slow. No less aggressive than usual, just more slowly so. ;)

I miss real snow. I lived in Lebanon, outside of St Louis when I went to jr high. Drifts up to the house and giant icicles...

It's a balmy 30 degree F here. But it's been in the 20's for two solid weeks. And it's been doing the freezing rain/ sleet/ snow/ stuff thing today and supposedly tomorrow too. Joys.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ugggh. YOu know, the freezing rain/ice is worse, IMO.

We should be seeing 30-something again this weekend. It's been a while!

[identity profile] murasaki99.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
30 feels like a heat wave compared to 20. The ground is like rock. Been feeding the birds, and yesterday morning I watched a gorgeous kestrel falcon grab a sparrow from the feeder and feed herself right in front of my window. Can't blame her, although the little birds were bummed.

Every day, I am glad for many reasons to no longer live in Chicago. That's often one of them -- Buffalo seemed mild while I was up there for work over the fall.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we miss you, but we know better than to try to persuade you to come back. :)

[identity profile] murasaki99.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Amen to that. I lived in Great Lakes, IL for two years when I was young. Windchill of -40. That was pretty unforgettable.

It is offensively stinking hot here. There must be some alchemy by which we can average our eyeball temperature.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm willing to try equalizing even with the risk of destroying the universe, but I will NOT trade: given the choice of two such nasties I much prefer the cold. :)

*Brrr* Living only a short distance from you, I have nothing whatsoever to add to your statement. But I'm posting this anyway XD

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Brrrr. You probably have it even worse than we do...the lake moderates us a little.

[identity profile] maggiehoneybite.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I sympathize. (And can relate, being a Montrealer and all).

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I bet you can relate!

Feel the burn. Builds character.

*tries to wrap her brain around the imagery*

*fails*

Heh. It's a special feeling, let me tell you. Also when your ears and nose start feeling crunchy because the cartilage has stiffened.

[identity profile] laurelwood.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose it's silly of me, but just once, I'd like to feel what "serious cold" is like. The coldest temperatures I've ever felt were, oh, I don't know, 20 degrees fahrenheit?

Also, great icon!

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh boy! Come on up and visit! You'll love it! ;)

Thanks, it's pretty, isn't it. [livejournal.com profile] thesuthernangel made a bunch of great animated snow/Narnia icons. Always winter, never Christmas!
