I found that place by walking around the area I wanted to live in (in that case it was Ukranian Village) and writing down the phone numbers of the buildings that had management company info posted on them. I called lots of places that either had nothing available or else were out of my price range, but the apartment I ended up finding had *just* come available and hadn't been advertised yet. It's a definite crapshoot, but if you have a sense of *where* you want to be, it might be worth spending an afternoon walking around. For bonus points, I'm assuming you have a cell phone, so you could call places right then and there, while standing in front of them.

All that being said, I hope that one of these places tomorrow turns out to be awesome, and that you won't even need to look beyond that.
