Drabble therapy!

Obrigada to everyone who offered condolences and commiserations over yesterday's unfortunate World Cup turns.

Here, have a Good Omens drabble. x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] go100

Mislaid Plans
Words: 100
Rating: PG for inadequate profanity
Characters: Aziraphale and Crowley
Summary: Some human passions can easily override the outmoded communications systems of Heaven and Hell.

“Bugger,” Aziraphale said, looking at the parchment. “I was supposed to do something about that match. What a pity they couldn’t get in touch with me yesterday.”

“Why couldn’t they?” said a suspiciously suntanned Crowley.

“Too much prayer interference over London,” Aziraphale said, wincing. Like the rest of the city, he was a little hungover, and not in a good way.

“Oh! Oh yes,” Crowley. “I missed a manipulation memo from my side as well. Same reason, it must be. Too much cursing interference.”

“Were you here?”

“No, I was checking on that ‘Girl From Ipanema’ Muzak project in Rio.”

Not sure if that makes it better or worse, really.

Sorry for this questions, but... you´re brazilian? o.O

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
My mother is. She's from Salvador, came here as a college student long ago...

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
huhu, nice!

I'm brazilian, a live in São Paulo, but I know Bahia (not Salvador in fact, but a city next to it)... do you speak portuguese? ^^

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
sorry, I live in São Paulo. xD

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I've been in the airport at SP a few times...Sadly, I don't speak Portuguese, although when I've been there I've picked it up some, only to lose it again. I can read a little bit...but I find the pronunciation really difficult. It's a beautiful language when anyone else is speaking it. :)

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhh.. so pity. T_T Sometimes I wanted post a comment in the your LJ (in general about Good Omens, of course =p) and I cannot found for the words that I want... my english not good yet...

Well, so nice that you have a brazilian mother, btw. ^_^

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, you could always go ahead and do that - I can whip out my trusty dictionary, after all! (Seriously, that's how I taught myself words and things last time I was there - with a dictionary and some Portuguese editions of books I knew really well, like LOTR and the HP series!) I don't mind the effort one bit.

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
realy? oh, thanks! this will be more easy, i hope so... ^^

you like harry potter, btw? o.o

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, go ahead. If there's something I really have trouble figuring out, I can always ask.

I do, yup. :)

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
really, you can ask, xD

Well. I'll try to write in english, good for you, good for me. ;-)

So nice! What your favorite character?

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever works for you - if you can't find an English word, try the Portuguese one. :)

Aw geez, so many. I like Snape, McGonagall, Remus, Luna, Hermione, Neville...

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I read english better than I write...

My favorite character is Remus. ^^ but I like also the Twins, Draco, Snape, McGonagall, Kingsley (do you remember? the auror...), Narcissa, Ron...

And... in Good Omens, who you prefer? Crowley or Zira? ^^

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo, I love Kingsley too. And Mad-Eye. Much love for the Aurors with interesting backstories.

That's an impossible question to answer in the "favorites" sense, but I'm going to say that I think Crowley is slightly more likable but I probably relate more to Aziraphale. :)

[identity profile] dana-norram.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry for don't answer to you yesterday... i neeeded sleep. ^^'

Aurors are cool, I think, although I don't like Tonks very much... in the Halfblood Prince she's very apathetic.

I understand. I loved both, but Aziraphale makes me smile a bit more. xD

LOL! {{hugs}} re: World Cup. And the rating is hilarious. *g*

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Hugs and LOLz gratefully accepted. XD There is no curse foul enough in Entish, Elvish, or the tongues of Men...

[identity profile] murasaki99.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Now, now, the ‘Girl From Ipanema’ Muzak might not be SO bad. >D

Alas for England. Sighs. At least they got further than the USA did.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes it is. XP

Hey, what was my team, chopped liver? Wait, don't answer that...apparently they were. My sympathies to England as well - the other team I was somewhat invested in, if more mildly. This drabble is meant to reach out to both of 'em.

[identity profile] murasaki99.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, at least I wasn't jinxing them by rooting for them. I've got the worst luck that way.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
See, and here was me thinking, I'm a Democrat, it'll be nice to root for the winning side for once. :P

[identity profile] applegnat.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry - I can imagine how it hurts. It just so happened that Fate, myself, and Zidane were all on the same side. For ONCE. Are you sure thinking of cozy Zaidane/Henry slash won't make you feel better?

[identity profile] applegnat.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
gah, misspelling.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I do understand. I'm not actually holding a grudge against France or any French fans...to anyone who watched that game there wasn't any real doubt who played better. No, it's Parreira's face on my dartboard.

And yes, slash can make almost anything better. :)

[identity profile] dreya-uberwald.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Love the idea of human static getting in the way of divine/infernal communications.

I wasn't watching the England match (used the fact that the game meant that the town centre was practically deserted during the game to get some shopping done without the usual crowds), but I did hear the collective groan from what sounded like miles around when the penalty was missed.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, thank you. I honestly can't imagine a prayer on any other theme getting through during the penalty kick phase of that England match. And I'm in the US and I'm only half Brazilian, but that was enough to feel a taste of the collective national gut-punch. Ow.

That must have been an awesome sound.
