Small-towny fandom woes.

Those of you who've fandom-known me for a long time might know that [livejournal.com profile] mctabby was the one who badgered (and lioned and eagled and snaked) me to get an LJ in the first place, and that I've been an admirer of her Summary Executions for as long as she's been doing them, which is several years now.

So I was feeling a little MEAN GIRLZ this evening and went to see if Good Omens fandom could ever have such a wonderful thing.

Alas, the answer's probably no. For one thing, there are only 28 pages of fics at the Pit, and half of them are by people I know. While there are quite a few summaries that I wouldn't click on a bet, there's just very little that even comes close to the inspired WTFery of "HPLotR Xover. Flames not accepted. COMPLETE! Harry is Gandalf, Hermione is Sauron. Gandalf loves Sauron, but does Sauron love him back? Obviously not slash. Those who have been begging me to finish it, your dreams have come true! RR pwease!" or subtle trainwrecks like "Brianne, Dawn, Lily and the Mauraders have become a tight nit group." or unintentional metacommentary brought on by punctuation accidents like "Hermione and Ginny love almost nothing to do with HBP" or "Harry thinks about Christmas Mpreg." There IS a little bit of tone-deaf wangst poetry, like the sort that is the source of my icon, but...meh. I'd have to lower standards to amass enough for a proper SE: GO Edition post.

I did find this minimalist gem, though:

Crowely/Aziralphe

Yup, that's the whole summary. And it did indeed tell me everything I needed to know about the fic.

Aziralphe! It kind of has a ring to it. I like it a lot better than 'Aziraphael.' I'll keep it in mind for that AU where they're American sitcom characters.

You like me better when I shut up and write porn, don't you?

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo has a proposal worthy of the Tempter himself!

I don't suppose you could provide a link to the 'Gandalf loves Sauron' fic?

Just kidding.

Running into the writers by accident is always a problem in a small fandom. Sigh.

I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] mctabby can!

IIRC, McT used to friendslock them, but they got too popular, and I think she finally decided 'If you didn't want be laughed at on the internet, you should put down the crack pipe and proofread." Fortunately for us, not enough people have chosen this wise course of action, for SE is at 42 installments now and going strong. And in a Pit section as nuclear-monstrously huge as HP, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

I used to spend a lot of time looking for Sauron slash. It was amazingly hard to find.

It's true about publicity. For every awful fic there's at least one favourable comment. Some of the anime fandoms would be well-served by that sort of publicity. Hmmm....

I wrote Sauron/Eol many years ago...it was..long and odd..

Now Sauron fics frighten me..

How did I miss it? :D

I remember an unfinished Sauron/Aragorn from about five years ago. I was going through one of those 'surely no one would slash Sauron but please point me towards the fic' phases.

Possibly because most of it is on ff.net Here, actually; there's about a chapter after that on my lj somewhere...but I never finished the fic..

sometimes I'm very tempted...

I remember reading some disturbing Sauron fics on Library of Moria. I'm always a bit proud that I wrote the first Sauron/Gothmog, which's also in that fic.

Ah..memories..

Ffnet was my haunt of choice at one time, but I'd moved on to HP by the spring of '03. Those were the days.

I still can't believe it took HP reading spanned seven years of my life...
