So there's been some fresh fic at
lower_tadfield lately, but still in her entry above her bit of bookshop smut,
katilara says: "and
linnpuzzle was right, the fandom is slowly collapsing like a flan in a cupboard."
Now, I don't think Good Omens fandom is exactly pining for the fjords, and I don't expect to see Azrael show up for it anytime soon, I think there is a Horseperson whose influence is being felt: Famine.
Not so much for fanworks themselves, although those are in a bit of a lull. But for feedback (and I am not whining for my own sake, I'm established enough now to have a great regular readership, and I do feel loved). This became pretty apparent to me during the '06
go_exchange; the comment rate was noticeably lower than last year's, especially in the last two weeks of the exchange, and I don't think the quality of the works was generally lesser. We also had a lot more dropouts than last year--yes, proportionately--and a much higher number of people not even bothering to comment on the piece that was created for them! (which only happened ONCE in '05, and that person did come through at the very end)
When I started writing GO fic two years ago, one of the things that made me want to stick around and keep doing it was how welcoming it was to me. Lately, I've seen quite a few works by new or occasional writers and artists not getting nearly the applause they deserve--or the encouragement they might need. And comments aren't just one-sided congrats or concrit, they are also where discussions are, and if fandom has a lifeblood, that's it!
Am I off base? If not, are there fewer people reading, or just fewer people commenting? I probably ought to put this at L_T, but I'm feeling wussy today.
