I was really unreasonably gutted that there won't be a regular Porn Battle this year - I hadn't realized how much I rely on it to snap me out of the January doldrums and inspire me to try new things.

BUT! All is not lost! The Porn Battle Amnesty group at Dreamwidth (pbam) is running an Amnesty Challenge from February 15 through the 25th, and the prompts that are up for grabs are . . . every single prompt on the books from the last 15 editions of Porn Battle! That is potentially a lot of porn. So I'm in and I want to spread the...word.

Last year, I wrote 5 Porn Battle stories, in 4 different fandoms. (Well . . . are The Hobbit and The Silmarillion really two completely different fandoms? Especially since the characters I wrote about in the TH ficlet also appear in the Silm? Yes and no). I'm going to try to beat that this year. A greater number of stories and of fandoms, that's my goal. Also to get some femslash in this year. Last year my tally was 1 f/m, 2 m/m, and 2 m/f/m threesomes.

This will be especially challenging because February is a hectic month with travel to a con at the end of it, AND...

I also plan on doing come_at_once for the first time.

Obviously I'm going to have to cheat by starting now.

As it happens, this is my first Sherlock fic actually set in London in the 2010s. Not that it matters much.

More interestingly, oxoniensis has another porn battle raging. And do I have to remind you once again, the Good Omens Anonymous Kink Meme exists? (I think I might be having a bit of a pout because, after nearly a year and all the fics I've written, only one of my own requests has been done.)

The wonderful thing about oxoniensis's Porn Battle series is that there are SO many prompts, SO many fandoms, SO many pairings (and moresomes), SO many possibilities.

It's a fantastic opportunity to try one's hand at something new--characters, fandoms, pairings, situations, I'd never even dreamed of writing before. Something completely different. A new adventure.

Well, oxoniensis posted her Porn Battle Postmortem yesterday, and wow.

In the space of one week, it generated 384 pornlets in 99 different fandoms, by 162 different authors/artists (and 3 anonymous submissions). Now that is a service to fandom!

I'm pleased with my 5 contributions in 5 different fandoms (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Good Omens, and Lost Souls)--3 of which were written in one 24-hour period--though I'm not even close to the most prolific author (14!). It's nice to know I can go quick 'n' dirty (heh) on deadline fairly reliably. And honestly, I don't think quality suffered much, since they were all only in the 600-800 word range (comment fic size limits) and I think my bunnies for all of them were reasonably solid. My biggest "problem" is keeping plot OUT of my PWP - I still mostly fail at that.

The stalwart pesha has compiled a Web site where you can search by author or fandom - invaluable indeed - and also links to all the prompts given (more than 2,000), which are still up for grabs for anyone to play with.
