I've been thinking that if I could ask Gneil and/or PTerry one Good Omens-related question, it would actually have nothing to do with the theology of the changed world or a second apocalypse or the mysteries of the Horsepersons or anything related to whether or not Aziraphale and Crowley are So Doing It (tm). Those are all things for fandom to play with, which it does quite nicely.

It would be a fairly straightforward question.

Who was Adam's mother?

If there's any fic or meta on this subject anywhere, please point me!

You know, I never once thought of that. But if you DO happen to find anything, make sure to post linkage because now I'm curious too.

awwww, icon love!

It just started driving me crazy all of a sudden. The obvious assumption is that she must have been human, but then why would Hastur and Ligur have had to bring him, presumably from Hell? Wouldn't he have been on earth already?

That thought has crossed my mind numerous times... and then slipped away as though someone didn't want me to think about it too hard ;) Sound familiar? I don't think we're meant to know. Generally, my concept has been "all of womankind", like picking a gene here, a gene there, at random.

Heh. Yeah, the thoughts are strangely elusive...:)

Only the good genes, of course.

Interesting . . . I’ve never thought about this before. In the movie The Omen the antichrist’s mother was a jackal, which was very weird and creepy, but I definitely think Adam’s mother is human. I really like the Madonna theory— it makes sense in a cracked out sort of way.

God, I'd forgotten about that jackal thing - haven't seen that movie in so long! Yeah, weird. I don't see anything like that happening with Adam either.

Test tube baby! The Evils Of Modern Science style.

I met a guy on a forum that's going to be Gneil's tourgideyperson during an Israel tour soonish. He said if I had any questions they could get asked vicariously through him. I'll mention that.

Ooooh, that's a possibility too! But isn't Hell a little old-fashioned for that?

That would be awesome. I think it's a good question. I wonder if he's thought it through and has an answer of his own.

Hm ... I have a vague and distant memory of someone asking Lucifer in a fanfic (Can't remember which I'm afraid, but I think it must have been a humorous one.) and him answering that in a way he was. That of course leaves the question who Adam's father is then, but to my disappointment it wasn't asked.

If not Lilith or some damned human, it's always possible that Lucifer created the infant child - taking the role of both mother and father upon himself. We know that ethereals can manipulate raw firmament, and because Lucifer fell and became ruler of Hell, I'm sure he's developed/earned complex capabilities of creation.

I don't know -- creating a living being from scratch (no pun intended) still really seems like it still ought to be something only God can do, in the framework of the mythology and all. But other cosmologies are full of deities and demigods impregnating themselves and the like. I just can't let go of the idea that the incarnation of the Antichrist should mirror the incarnation of Christ (while parodying or blaspheming it in some way).

Interesting question, I've wondered about this myself a few times and would probably go with human woman willing to be impregnated in exchange for wealth, power...etc. This seems to be a common theme in many of the seventies horror flicks I've seen (though I recall that in one of the Warlock movies the fully grown antichrist bursts out of some poor unsuspecting womans abdomen Alien style). Though I do like [livejournal.com profile] murasaki99's idea.

Well, they're just about to release a remake of the The Omen - wonder if they kept that jackal bit in (see above).

AWESOME! I mean, ew.

I could buy this, definitely. I could also buy that she might be a starry-eyed innocent doing it for love. A fangirl, in a way.

I've wondered about this too. Adam's player over at Neutral Omens and I kicked around the possibility that his mother might have been specially bred by Lucifer for the purpose, possibly from a line descended from Nephilim, so that the kid would be literally part angel, part demon, part human. I don't think there's any fic out there so far that directly addresses the question.

It's the Witch-King, of course.

(At least pretend you laughed.)

But in all seriousness, I was thinking about this myself just a few days ago. I'm going to be struck by lightening a thousand times over for this but could Lucifer be the "mother" and the father be...*whispers* God? Ok, I'm not sure I really believe that. I agree with you that the mother is probably human, but other than that, I couldn't guess.

I'm going to be struck by lightening a thousand times over for this but could Lucifer be the "mother" and the father be...*whispers* God?

*watches the sky*. Nope, nothing there. Not even any clouds today. :) It might rather follow if Lucifer says that he was the "mother" in a way, as per [livejournal.com profile] _silverfox's comment....and it would possibly, ineffably explain a lot. But I've got a pretty thick skin for heresy....
