AO3 Archiving Angst
Jun. 3rd, 2012 04:14 pmBTW, it's funny to me when people abbreviate it as AOOO, because my brain always autofills with "...werewolves of London!"
I think I'm going to do the GO kink meme fills as one big "fic" with many "chapters" for the following reasons:
1. If I look at my own writer page and see, say, 25 actual "stories" and 26 quick porn fills, I'm going to think I'm "padding."
2. Spam. If GO was a bigger, more active fandom this wouldn't bother me so much, but I hate the sight of two whole pages of search results that are just all about my id.
3. Efficiency.
4. It seems like, for readers, each approach has pros and cons. The cons of the omnibus approach are that readers can't kudos individual stories. The pros are that they can read the whole thing quickly and download it all at once if they want.
4a. Maybe I'll compromise and make the ones that are all Aziraphale/Crowley into one omnibus fic, but the few that are rarer pairings/characters into separate fics. That way people who are searching for that can find it more easily. That sounds good. I'll do that.
5. Of course, if AO3 continues to be nothing but one big 502 error, as it's been constantly for me for the past week, maybe I won't be archiving anything at all. (I was actually shocked to get a kudos notification yesterday - I was like, wow, some people can still read stuff there?)
