Date: 2005-07-09 04:07 am (UTC)I still have another 18 mo. or so to go on mine...and that's after 10 years for one effing year at UVA (though it was a great MA program...). Blah. And then my darling husband decided to spend a semester at Santa Clara U., which was the same as a full year at UVA. That starts later this year. Feh.

Date: 2005-07-09 04:09 am (UTC)18 mos. still isn't too bad, after all that's already gone by...it'll be over before you know it. (Honestly I had hardly even noticed how close I was - I was benumbed.)

Date: 2005-07-09 04:09 am (UTC)And at the same time, yikes. That's...a long time. I'm suddenly feeling a bit panicky. ;o)

Date: 2005-07-09 04:10 am (UTC)Also, too, my first 5 or so years out of school I was dead poor. Like minimum-wage, food-stamp poor. I didn't make any headway then, obviously. Better luck to you!

Date: 2005-07-09 05:15 am (UTC)It puts a very sizable (by my standards anyway) amount back into my budget per month. And to celebrate at first I'm going to let more of a safety net build up.
I finished mine about five years ago!
Date: 2005-07-09 10:38 pm (UTC)Aaand, now my dream is to go "back" to graduate school. Grr.

Date: 2005-07-09 06:31 am (UTC)OMGOMGOMG by the time I'm through grad school I'm gonna be in debt forever... *facepalm*no subject
Date: 2005-07-09 06:48 am (UTC)I have to say, when I watched that bankruptcy bill vote on CSPAN2 this was foremost in my mind, and I was thinking, almost there almost there...what can I sell...besides my ASS? My prayers are with you....I hope when you get out of grad school there is a Democrat in the WH and prosperity again, because I graduated during the Bush I Recession, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.no subject
Date: 2005-07-09 06:47 am (UTC)Congratulations and good move re safety net AND single-malt. :-)

Date: 2005-07-09 06:53 am (UTC)I went to private artsy-freak schools, because I was a freak and not optimistic about my chances of getting by anywhere else, and that hurt me a lot. Not that I regret my choices--except that first school, which was really not a good fit, no matter how beautiful and romantic the campus was. :( (The second one actually gave me good scholarships, so I was never too badly in the hole for that one.)
One of the best things about it is now I can feel more able to think about grad school, which I've always kind of wanted to do but was so twitchy about the already-existing debt. I really do want to spend a little quality time with my income, though. :)

Date: 2005-07-09 07:19 am (UTC)ah well. no since in having regrets at this stage. One of my girlfriends calls it the "education tax" - you just pay a fine every month for 20-30 years and forget about it.
but still! I'm certainly happy for you!!!! and one day in the far off future, maybe I'll be happy for me, too.
