I've been thinking that if I could ask Gneil and/or PTerry one Good Omens-related question, it would actually have nothing to do with the theology of the changed world or a second apocalypse or the mysteries of the Horsepersons or anything related to whether or not Aziraphale and Crowley are So Doing It (tm). Those are all things for fandom to play with, which it does quite nicely.

It would be a fairly straightforward question.

Who was Adam's mother?

If there's any fic or meta on this subject anywhere, please point me!

She just brought that idea up over at LT...I think that's really interesting.

I'm hoping to morph this into a fic challenge for 6/6/06....:D

It's the Witch-King, of course.

(At least pretend you laughed.)

But in all seriousness, I was thinking about this myself just a few days ago. I'm going to be struck by lightening a thousand times over for this but could Lucifer be the "mother" and the father be...*whispers* God? Ok, I'm not sure I really believe that. I agree with you that the mother is probably human, but other than that, I couldn't guess.

I didn't laugh.

It was more of a shrieking cackle. :P

*watches the sky*. Nope, nothing there. Not even any clouds today. :) It might rather follow if Lucifer says that he was the "mother" in a way, as per [livejournal.com profile] _silverfox's comment....and it would possibly, ineffably explain a lot. But I've got a pretty thick skin for heresy....

Nephilim seems like a really awesome idea. I think it makes me feel better to assume that Hastur and Ligur brought Adam up from Hell and didn't take him from some mortal woman's womb on Earth, as I'm sure those two would have been very clumsy about it if they had to accomplish the latter.

Rather, I have a feeling the "don't make me read it" is more for legal reasons rather than personal preferences.

I seem to remember having heard or read somewhere a hilarious and possibly very apocryphal story about Terry at a con once literally hiding under a table from someone who was brandishing Discworld fanfic at him.

It was all in good fun, not an actual serious crucifix/vampire reaction.

I can just picture him doing that. It's just a relief that he and Neil deal with it so well.

Now that I think about it, I don't see God as he is in the GO universe as being all too upset with that. It's something I could see him doing.

It sure is...which is why it's important not to cross the line, y'know.

And also...

In Neil's case, a high-horse attitude towards fanfic would be most misplaced coming from a man who's written Sherlock Holmes/Cthulhu crossovers and a Narnia fic that included a Aslan/White Witch oral sex scene. To his credit, I think he's well aware of this.

0_o Okay, the Study in Emerald I've read, but where is this Narnia fic? Can you point me to this...er, shattering of my early Christian brainwashing?

I do hope that the remake of The Omen isn't going to diverge from the original too much; I'll always remember it fondly as one of the few horror films that has actually scared me (though of course since reading GO I'm completely unable to read/watch anything with antichrists in it without feeling the urge to grin and make comparisons to Adam)

I could buy this, definitely. I could also buy that she might be a starry-eyed innocent doing it for love. A fangirl, in a way.

Hehe, a satanic fangirl; if that's the case then it's a good job that Crowley didn't have to deal with the maternal side of things, as he would have probably discorporated himself due to gratuitous eye rolling and embarrassment on said satanic fangirls behalf.
