Oh bugger.

Wanna go get drunk, England?

I'm sorry. :(

I was thinking of you throughout the match.

Thanks. :(

What the hell happened???

Getting drunk sounds like a great idea

What happened is that France played their asses off and Brazil...didn't.

*drowns self in booze*

Yeah France did play their asses off
but man what a shocker
Wow

*pours drinks*

Damn. Still smarting from '98. But to be knocked out this early - ouch, that's worse.

*glug*

Yes I am sure many people are stunned by this upset
way too early for Brazil to be eliminated
Wow I was positive Brazil would win it all
Now I have to focus on my one remaining team

*Hands Vulgarweed another drink*

I suspect if you could hear the earth from space, there'd be a cloud of horrified silence over a very large chunk of South America.

I got no dog in this fight anymore, but I'll watch anyway. Hell, maybe France - if they had to beat us, they damn well better prove themselves the best!

*appreciates. Toasts fatalistically.*

From: [identity profile] andrea--88.livejournal.com
Yes I agree with the horrified silence
I still can't believe it
Well if Italy beats Germany them I'll root for France

*toasts with Vulgarweed*

Is it too early to plan for 2010?

Date: 2006-07-01 10:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com
NEVER too early to plan for 2010! (for those of us who've lost anyway)

From: [identity profile] andrea--88.livejournal.com
Excellent! Then I shall start planning
Watch out for the Aussies in 2010! ;o)

I can't believe it. My son even had his Brazil shirt on. (my husband got it in Sao Paulo last week.) I feel terrible.

I just got off the phone with my parents. They're NOT happy. :( Well, I hope your husband had a good trip anyway.

*pats*

Can't say it was undeserved, though. Brazil just didn't seem to try as much as France.

And man, Zidane was gold today.

From: [identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com
*thanks*

Oh, I don't think anyone is saying it was undeserved. France was on fire, Brazil was on autopilot. And somehow, somewhere in there, I'm just a little bit happy for Zidane.

I'm sorry. My deepest sympathies, I know exactly how you feel.

There's some gin left if you want it. We've all gone beyond the gin stage and headed for the vodka.

Ah, the pungent alcohol reek of commiseration. Thanks much, and gin would be lovely.

My condolences to you y todo Brasilia, hon. Do you care about the Cup anymore? I'm trying to figure out if Argentina is still in the running...

Date: 2006-07-01 10:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com
Obrigada! I imagine I'll keep watching, but it's not quite the same as actually caring. Argentina's out, BTW, they were eliminated by Germany a few days ago. So the semifinals are all European.

Oh, how boring. Bleah. I will then join Brazil and England in getting drunk.

From: [identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com
I can't even muster the caring to find a team to root against yet. *swigs*

*waves drink and sloshes caipirinha all around*

*pours another one*

Thought I should get wawsted with you.

ah yes, yes. Was saving that to celebrate too.

I hate this.

And you know what's worse? We'll be insecure in every.fucking.match. against France for the next 4 or 8 years.

God. If I didn't know for sure it was bad planning and utter stubborn incompetence, I'd say it was witchcraft.

Date: 2006-07-02 12:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com
Was it insecurity this time? I think overconfidence...well, no more of that! Pathetic.

I'd think that too, except Brazil should rightfully have it all over France in the praying-and-mojo department.

Ouch. Gee, V., that stinks -- here was me looking forward to a proper showdown between Brazil and England. We could get companionably drunk together instead, but it's a poor second to the original scenario ...

*rummages in freezer* Wanna chocolate martini?

Date: 2006-07-02 01:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com
We could get companionably drunk together and try to kick the ball around ourselves.

The idea of a chocolate martini is disturbing to me, but never let it be said I'm not adventurous!

Date: 2006-07-02 04:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blueeyedtigress.livejournal.com
And I answered me, instead of you -- I haven't had *that* many chocolate martinis! 8?

Date: 2006-07-02 04:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blueeyedtigress.livejournal.com
That would guarantee a win for Brazil over England, since my knees are bloody *shot*.

If you don't feel like chocolate martinis, I have chilled sake. Yeah, yeah, it just happens to be what I have in the freezer right now. Um ... there's a bottle of Screech on the bookshelf, but it's meant for a friend of a friend. And there are a couple of Single Malt Scotches hidden away. (Adds to grocery list: need to get more wine into the house ....)

Y' know, it just occurred to me ...... if this thing finishes up with Portugal against France, it might just be a sign of yet another Apocolyptic Incursion.

We Aussies are still smashed from last week. Welcome to the funeral party. I think there's still a bottle or two around here somewhere, don't mind the bodies huddled weeping on the floor.

Aw, you guys have been in mourning so much longer. It's nice of you to be so welcoming. I hope the hungover folks don't mind the samba beats--even when we're depressed, we can't help it.
