[music geek]: It comes as no surprise to anyone who really knows me that I enjoy loud and dense and violent music with a BDSM-related intensity. And that my preferred way of experiencing such is live and right up in front of the stage. (It's really kind of frightening that after all these decades my hearing is still as good as it is.)

But I'm picky. Not just any ol' bashing will do. I listen for an artistry, a commitment, a downright spiritual level of discipline. It has to work mystically. It has to transcend. And it has to make me smile.

Rhys Chatham gave me such a good skullfucking last night I'm gonna be grinning funny for a week!

There's just nothing better than going to see a really amazing band. I went to a music festival on the Isle of Wight a couple of weeks ago where the Scissor Sisters were headlining, and although they were amazing and put on a great show, I was absolutely blown away by Gogol Bordello, a 'gypsy punk' band I'd never even heard of before I went to the festival. I've never been that close to the stage during a big gig before, which was an amazing feeling in itself, and their live show absolutely blew me away - I never thought I'd end up jumping up and down screaming for another encore of a song I hadn't heard before.

I can se why my sister goes to two gigs a week and doesn't feel the need to do any drugs or drink when she's not going out. I, on the other hand, have to listen to a family musical eight times a week and can now drink my recommended weekly allowance of alcohol in one night without flinching.

Oooo, Gogol Bordello. I've never seen them live but their records are just awesome. NExt time they come around here, I'll have to make sure I go.

I used to be a lot like your sister. Now, alas, I've got reclusive and now have a nasty drinking-alone habit to kick. (But it IS so much more fun the other way, so I'm prodding myself to go out more again too).

Yes, do! They put on an amazing show. Their set ran over by about half an hour - they just kept playing the same song over and over, faster and faster as an encore. I thought the old guy with the electric violin was going to have a heart attack!

I'm just looking forward to getting my evenings back so I can go to some gigs! When you finish work at 11 going out options are often rather limited. I've got into a bad habit of drinking every night in my digs, but I think that's something all theatre folk are prone to.
