The Clot Thickens!

Purge-related PSA: Be VERY careful if you go to the Warriors of Idiocy site: it's been widely reported now that the site loads you up with spyware.
These charming folks have now attracted the notice of
dark_christian, the Dominionist/theocrat watch group on LJ, and one of the most informative posters there,
dogemperor, has a post here about some very unsavory connections this group may have. (But the Confederate flag and homophobic and racist rants on the WoI individual's personal blog don't take much detective work, they're out there for all to see. Looks like it gets even worse).
As for general LJ-fandom related things,
ms_katonic has a terrific roundup of links here.
There is the community
innocence_jihad on LJ, and fandomtossed on GJ. (I'm vulgarweed over there too - friend me!)
Now I'm working on a post about the importance of alternative archives. Coming soon. What are your favorite archives? (Multifandom, your fandom, etcs.)

Date: 2007-05-31 12:28 am (UTC)I've been optimistic for two days, believing that the stupid cannot possibly win, even hoping that the suspended accounts would get renewed with an apology. I'm rosy like that, sometimes. Then I read the cnet article. Am now too stunned to think, so I'm just waiting for an official word from LJ staff.

Date: 2007-05-31 01:27 am (UTC)Come to think of it, a good friend of mine uses the .SIG file "Proud to be a textual poacher!" in reference to her fanfic. Maybe we're all modern pirates, sailing the seas of literature ... ;]
"Yo-ho, haul together, raise the colours high!
Heave-ho, theives and beggars, never say we die!"
GIP!

Date: 2007-05-31 01:39 am (UTC)Uh... my favorite archive is my own site. Which, yeah, I suppose someone could conceivably contact the web host to complain about adult content, but I'm not terribly concerned about that (it's the same host that HASA uses).
Skyehawke is decent enough, though there are certain restrictions re: content (that Australia under-17 thing). Except for fanfiction.net that's the only big multifandom archive I really use (and ff.net I only use in a very limited way).
If there were someplace that took everything, and where I could be assured that the rules wouldn't change and things wouldn't be yanked or canceled without warning, I'd love to know about it.
Thinking, what a whole lot of this boils down to is that people don't like to mind their own business. If I'm not doing anything that causes actual physical harm to another person, IMO there is no reason for it to be considered illegal; if someone doesn't like what I write, they don't have to look at it.

Date: 2007-05-31 02:26 am (UTC)I'm hearing good things about The Archive at the End of the Universe: http://www.the-archive.net/index.php I just got an invite, but it's being a little glitchy for me. I'll report back.

Date: 2007-05-31 01:50 am (UTC)Honestly, every time you think you've got some little corner of the net to occupy without being bugged someone comes over and gets all holier-than-thou on you. *growls* A friend and I have been sending emails to mods of fanfic comms who don't seem to have heard the news to make sure they edit their interests. So far people have been doing well with the heads up.
Thank Adam that GO has the GO library. I'm not very informed about other archives other than skyhawke and the Pit, so I'll be glad for an information post of that nature. ;)

Date: 2007-05-31 04:30 pm (UTC)http://www.nfiction.com/ This one appears to be a clone of an older version of ff.net. Comfortably easy to use. Or maybe that's just because I was already used to it from ff.net.
http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/ ... I think someone already mentioned this one.
http://www.transformersfanfic.com/ The only fandom specific site I post at. Transformers fandom, so I doubt you'll have much use for it.
