modillian, I think. This one's rather nice. A lot of mine came out seasonal - if I did this list in winter it would be very different.
But first an announcement: betting pool opens now on whether or not my waist-length hair will survive another hot, sticky summer. I realize I kind of look like those Pentecostal girls at my school who weren't allowed to cut their hair, and the irony amuses me.
10 Simple Pleasures
1. The first cup of coffee and the first cigarette of every day. Don't look at me like that. It is pure re-animating, re-aligning bliss, even after all these years. Alas.
2. Swimming in the ocean; smelling salt and feeling waves. Alas, Lake Michigan does not quite suffice.
3. "Sister Ray," motherfucker!
4. Just sitting outside in the perfect cooling summer twilight under the trees.
5. Sweaty athletic sex in a room with the air-conditioning set to "refrigerate."
6. My mother's homemade avocado ice cream.
7. Feeling a story fall together just right. OK, this isn't simple.
8. Paycheck. Bookstore. Convergence.
9. Seeing that Digory has mastered yet another new goofy sleeping pose.
10. Actually really being able to savor the sensation of an airplane's takeoff without fear.
