Sorry I've been AWOL

Busy, busy times at work right now.
Most of my fannish energy has been devoted to behind-the-scenes machinations re:
go_exchange. (Go sign up! You've got til the 24th!)
Happy belated birthday,
maggiehoneybite. I hope it was lovely despite the awful thing that happened in your city that day.
My state's politics just got a little livelier: Comptroller Hynes throws down the gauntlet to Senator Obama. Oh MY. He lays it on thick: "There is nothing in the Constitution that says the President has to take his oath of office on the steps of the Capitol. I would hope I will have the privilege of seeing you take the oath of office as President of the United States on January 20, 2009 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, less than a month before the 200th birthday of the Great Emancipator."
(That's a hit below the belt. Obama's reverent fanboying of Lincoln is well-known around these parts.)
I'm skeptical. But I'm going to go out on a limb here and step outside my own personal loyalties to other possible contenders and say this. You want a ticket that can win BIG in '08? Gore/Obama. Yes. I think so. South/North. White/Black. Has both the new-start promising fresh face factor and the angrier-but-wiser experienced I-told-you-so factor. Mark my words. (And the more emphatically both men deny that they'll run, the more Destined it sounds.)
Meanwhile, my home state and my adopted state faced off in the Senate this week because GEORGE ALLEN IS A PLAYJERIST OMG!!1! Someone who pulled this stunt on fanfiction.net would get their ass flamed off and rightly so. Someone who does it in the Senate...well, I just sent some money I can't afford to Jim Webb's campaign. I know I am not alone in this.
I think the old canard that "Democrats have no ideas" can be put to rest now, right? In fact Dick Durbin's idea milkshake is bringing all the Pubs to the yard (to steal 'em). He could teach you but he'd have to charge.
Cheer up Georgie, you'll get to relax away from all this strain of Senatin' bein such hard work soon enough. Hakuna Macaca!
