This is mostly aimed at people participating in go_exchange but I'm also interested in hearing from anybody who's done any kind of sekrit-santa type anonymous fic/art exchange...

waxbean and I were discussing the way there's always a lot of guessing going on in private and semi-private (and we of course are not eligible to play this game), and we were wondering about hosting a post just for that purpose, right before the Big Reveal, and then we can all laugh about how spot-on or dead-wrong the guesses are.

BUT...is this idea utterly booby-trapped with potential for hurt feelings and wank that I'm missing? Wouldn't be the first time I puttered obliviously past a Red Flag.

What do y'all think?

merry_smutmas did that last year, and afaik there were no hurt feelings. Good clean guessing fun for all.

Sounds like it would be fun (and there's potential for hurt feelings and wank in anything... don't let that stop you).

I personally am absolutely miserable at guessing identities in these things, so I wouldn't ever participate, but some folks are quite good and enjoy doing it. :-)

What I think will be fun is seeing how many pieces I thought were screamingly obvious that will turn out to stump people. There might be some, you never know.

Good point about the wank. It seems to me it's not the things you worry about generating wank that do it -- it springs out of some totally unexpected, innocuous-seeming source.

It's all the same to me. I know there are many people who guessed my work instantly ;) And of course if you post a space for guessing, I won't mention that I know which fic was yours, because duuuh. Other than yours and mine, there are probably only three other people whose work I knew right away. Everyone else... I couldn't even begin to guess.

Yes, your work is pretty damn distinctive. I'd know it even if I didn't know it -- right away! :) There are more artists like that than writers like that, I think.

Ah, but guessing the ones you couldn't begin to guess is the fun part!
