For no apparent reason yesterday, a high fever fell on me like a piano in a Loony Tunes. I was feeling fine in the morning/early afternoon, and the next thing you know, I just collapsed and lay flapping around helplessly groaning. Everything ached. I couldn't get warm.

M brought me orange juice. G brought me spicy Thai soup. I slept about 18 hours. I still feel like someone's taken a meat tenderizer to my throat.

A little warning would have been nice.

(note to self--buy Airborne before term starts...)

Airborne? does that stuff work? I'll be TA-ing a room full of 92 vet school freshmen, and peering through their microscopes. What a great way to share germs with a stressed out population gathered from all over the east coast!

Yes, stay hydrated and rest. It sounds awful! And if your throat is really yucky you might consider going and getting a strep test and antibiotics. Whenever I have strep throat it strikes like that; I go from fine to crap in just minutes.

love your icon! :)

Airborne works for me--that's my standard disclaimer. i managed not to get the horrible sick of doom (including strep) that was going round Columbia last spring, even though my immune system was already strained by an abcess and periodontitis. i suppose it could be because i was stubborn--or actually did get sick but didn't notice in the context of all the other crap--but i do know that i took Airborne at the first sign of minor throat pain, kept pounding it for four days (went through like three tubes), and had one swollen throat gland but no fever and nothing worse than that. people were dropping around me and i still managed to stay on my feet.

i suppose it's no better than echinacea, but it does force me to keep hydrated, as it dissolves in water and goes all fizzy.
