For no apparent reason yesterday, a high fever fell on me like a piano in a Loony Tunes. I was feeling fine in the morning/early afternoon, and the next thing you know, I just collapsed and lay flapping around helplessly groaning. Everything ached. I couldn't get warm.

M brought me orange juice. G brought me spicy Thai soup. I slept about 18 hours. I still feel like someone's taken a meat tenderizer to my throat.

A little warning would have been nice.

Oh, my car gave out over the weekend and my husband had to go back to Chicago for at least another week, so I'm pretty much stuck without transport until Saturday and running out of stuff (nonessentials, thankfully, but still stuff I'll miss.) And the husband had a miserable weekend, all sorts of little things going wrong all over the place and the trip back here from Chicago taking about twice as long as it should have due to storms and flooding. And people on my flist are stressing out left and right over all sorts of things. The stars must be out of alignment this week or something. :p

*Hugs VW*

Thanks, hon. That's why I vanished from the RP. My IQ plummeted 40 points in 10 minutes.

*hugs* Poor dear!

I always drink very hot herbal tea against throat aches. I'm not sure why something that'd normally just burn my tongue has such wonderful pain reducing effects, but it works wonders.

Also, if you need distraction and cheering up, Dreya has posted a new chapter on LT.

Oh, I had that a while back! Be ready for your digestive system to just utterly fail. And to spend about a week with no symptoms and yet not being able to generate the energy to get anything done.

My deepest sympathies.

*Winces* Sounds a bit like the unpleasant little bug that was doing the rounds on my side of the Atlantic a couples of months back. Hope that the worst of the symptoms start to fade very soon.

Eeep! Especially awful in flipping AUGUST when one doesn't expect this sort of bug at all.

Hope you feel better soon!

Something has definitely been going around! I had a cold for three days, Chuck's been a bit ill as of this morning, and even my instructor at school has flu-like symptoms. Take care of yourself, darling!

Ugh, that sounds terrible - I hate those sudden bizarre flu-like things that strike from out of nowhere. Try to stay hydrated, and of course the honey-lemon combination might help a little with the sore throat. Hope it goes away soon!

oh dear. it sounds like a relatively speedy ailment--wow, good going with your speed-healin'! let me know if you need anything in particular.

(note to self--buy Airborne before term starts...)

Airborne? does that stuff work? I'll be TA-ing a room full of 92 vet school freshmen, and peering through their microscopes. What a great way to share germs with a stressed out population gathered from all over the east coast!

Yes, stay hydrated and rest. It sounds awful! And if your throat is really yucky you might consider going and getting a strep test and antibiotics. Whenever I have strep throat it strikes like that; I go from fine to crap in just minutes.

love your icon! :)

Airborne works for me--that's my standard disclaimer. i managed not to get the horrible sick of doom (including strep) that was going round Columbia last spring, even though my immune system was already strained by an abcess and periodontitis. i suppose it could be because i was stubborn--or actually did get sick but didn't notice in the context of all the other crap--but i do know that i took Airborne at the first sign of minor throat pain, kept pounding it for four days (went through like three tubes), and had one swollen throat gland but no fever and nothing worse than that. people were dropping around me and i still managed to stay on my feet.

i suppose it's no better than echinacea, but it does force me to keep hydrated, as it dissolves in water and goes all fizzy.
