...OK, I was trying to hold off on this, but I really do just have to get it off my chest.

Y'all know I'm pushing 40, right?

I can't do this fandom thing anymore.

It's not that it makes me feel childish or anything. Worse.

No, it's that certain postings I've read around the internet lately (a most excellent one, for example, on the abuse of women that is Firefly), made me realize that I've been in deep, deep denial about the fantasy/SF genre as a whole, and its "ideas." It is connected to surrealism, which is a masculine theft and alienation and cruel parody of women's daily reality. For me to spend my days in stories about hobbits and wizards and angels and demons is indeed an indication of how deep my male-identified sellout to the patriarchy has been. My imagination has been colonized, and I have been in collusion. The self-negation of my phallocentric pornography is nothing compared to the travesty of my escapism.

From now on, there will be nothing but concrete women's truth in this LJ. Nothing but childhood sexual abuse, reminiscences about my mother, and rude things men say to me on the bus. Also, recipes. Vegan ones.

Also, I have to say, there is not a dime's worth of difference between the two political parties, and voting only encourages them. My next post will be about how the next President, John McCain, will encourage The People to rise in glorious revolution, and therefore I will feel it is my patriotic duty to either sit out this election or vote for Ralph Nader so that eventually the natural leaders of the proletariat--the very same people who made the noble sacrifice of living on their trust funds in college so that they could boycott corporate food and gasoline and hector the less-enlightened about the System full-time--will lead us into true freedom.

Oh, you underestimate me!

I have a wonderful one for cookies that includes no flour, sugar, animal products, water, fruit, grain, and don't even require use of any fuels to heat. The truth is, our ancestors knew that we are really from the mineral kingdom when you get right down to it, and what those estranged from natural call "rocks" we used to know as sustenance from the very breasts of the Mother.

*sporfle* Oh, God, I thought I'd accidentally clicked on someone else's friends list, until I looked at the clock. :D

Recipes wouldn't be so bad, particularly if combined with porn, even vegan porn. At least vegan porn could contain no references to man-meat. Possibly man-tofu -- oh, wait, no, that would be worse than non-vegan porn.

What, no cats? I'm calling cat discrimination. Or aren't we Crazy Cat Ladies an integral part of female-dom any more?

:p

I read that essay too. I chuckled a lot, after the obligatory facepalm - see icon.

And is this post related to today being April 1st, by any chance?

This is such an inspirational post. I'm glad to see you embrace your womynhood after your long complicity in the patriarchal system we live under-- it takes a lot of strength to do that, especially with the audience that you've built up. You're probably going to get a lot of flack for this move, but be strong! Know that your lesbian feminist sisters are with you. You've done the right thing.

(Also, I know some killer recipes for vegan creme brulee.)

...Could you edit your post and spell it wymyn, please? I mean, really. You don't want to give in to the patriarchy and have "m-e-n" anywhere.

(Just FYI for future reference, if you're going to be talking about childhood sexual abuse, it's 'hymyn' now. Also 'mynstruation.')

But those nitpicks aside...amyn, sister!

This is yet another flagrant case of discrimination against the reality-impaired, and I assure you that I and my fellow figments will not permit it to go unchallenged. Selling out to the patriarchy, indeed. Clearly this is how you rationalize your withdrawal from this unconscionable form of entertainment while conveniently avoiding any culpability for your brutal victimization of defenseless fictional persons. Why if I had tuppence for every time I or my associate has been shamefully emasculated, assaulted, tortured, maimed, Felled or discorporated by some hormonal housewife for the amusement of the fanarchy, I could bloody well BUY the Ritz.

Really, my dear.

Also, I implore you to remember what became of the first individual who chose vegetation over meat. Man doth not live by grain alone, and it makes a rotten sacrificial offering besides.

*Sniffle* You have opened my eyes, sister. I realise that I, being over 40 myself, have wasted an abominable amount of energy on fandom. Especially those that promote nothing but penises and the enjoyment thereof. I need to burn all my artwork. I need to draw nothing but wombs, in paint made of menstral blood.

That's it. I'm leaving my husband (after I make him do my laundry, dishes, vacuuming, and then pack my bags for me) and moving to shelter for abused womyn.

Thank you again, beloved sister, for I am freed of the manocentric male-ocracy. *sobs*

I've been fuming about that ridiculous tantrum ever since I read it last week, and before I realized what day it is, I thought it entirely right and natural that you would write this just because!!! Oddly, when I clicked on your post, I just happened to be watching Serenity -- felt a bit surreal.

This is so funny, but also incredibly healing of the anger I've been feeling about that stupidity -- thank you!
