Apparently there's a male lactation joke in the Ferrell/Reilly Holmes and Watson movie. This came out of a conversation with [personal profile] tei on Twitter, and, welllll....

Cis male lactation is a thing that can happen. Nutritional imbalances, hormones, nipple stimulation, all these things can cause it under the right circumstances.

Imagine if Sherlock, overrun with guilt for his role in inadvertently, indirectly, causing Mary's death (and is not rejected as harshly by John, so doesn't resume hard drug use) feels very guilty for having played a role in robbing Rosie of a natural healthy food source.

Imagine what he might do to try to rectify that (without asking John's input first, of course).

The very first ficlet I wrote for Cheers was male lactation with Omega John called Slippery Nipple. And (not male lactation but similar but less angsty and more smutty than the fic idea you mention above) over Christmas I was to fill my Exhibition square of my Ladies Bingo and Molly with all the babysitting of Rosie finds herself engorged and leaking and Irene and her play with it.

And on a side note (I have more thoughts about this issue than I realized) what mainstream comedy thinks of as 'edgy' is so whatever. I remember an SNL skit about lesbian menstrual blood drinking vampire and the male comedian/actor was clearly uncomfortable and wouldn't even said the joke, said he couldn't say the joke, and the female actor/comedian also looked like she was being so edgy and I was thinking here I am a sheltered little thing from the back of beyond 'heritage not hate' South Carolina and I've written 32K about a lesbian menstrual blood drinking vampire. It's interesting but not as edgy as those big city folks think!!

I *love* male lactation stories! Not in a kinky way, though kinky is fine with me, but just in a way that combats the notion that nurturing is a feminine-only phenomenon, and that gives all those nurturing feelings someplace to go. This, plus Sherlock overflowing with caregiver sentiments, is a beautiful thought. And John can't nurture Rosie as much as she needs, since he's still grappling with all that grief and anger. What a good use for Sherlock's remorse.
