This is a picture I took today of the long descent over water into the airport at Norfolk, VA.

Isn't it pretty, and a little relaxing even? It would have been if Norfolk, VA had been my intended destination, which it was not.

Here's a picture of the pretty storm clouds over Raleigh that the pilot flew circles around for a while before saying, "fuck it, we're going to Norfolk."
All's well that ends well, though. Mom is currently up to her unprotected neck in A Song of Ice and Fire so she doesn't GAF how long she has to wait at the airport. She probably barely noticed she was even at the airport. A Clash of Kings is one of the best, I agree.

This is my dinner with minha màe at the Brazilian buffet in Greensboro. May the delicious taste and belly warmth still remain even after we lose to Colombia tomorrow.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME ON SUNDAY!

Dec. 8th, 2011 11:37 pmSo I was able to wish my mom a Happy Birthday in Portuguese today!
We got to talking and reminiscing about our trip there in '04 and she reminded me of a lot of funny moments. My favorite one I had forgotten:
Your Family Might Be Brazilian If...
...you've ever been scolded by an elderly aunt because your bathing suit covers up too much.

Uig, Isle of Skye, Scotland. For the landscape (steep and mossy, on a sea bay) and the climate (cool and foggy), and the random ancient standing stones everywhere, noted mostly by sheep. If I ever wanted to live in another remote rural town with a 3-digit population (grew up in one, so I'm pretty totally over it as a romantic concept), I wouldn't settle for anywhere but this one.

Runners-up:
New York City, NY, USA.
Salvador, BA, Brazil
Chiang Mai, Thailand

Jun. 11th, 2010 05:02 pmLet's GOOOO!!!! (psst,
world_cup_slash...for our kind of people. :D)
oh gods, please, please let everybody keep BP oil spill rage out of the USA vs. England match tomorrow.
And in completely unrelated writer-news, excavation on my early-90s original drawerfic continues. Wow, is it terrible. But then, it was my senior project in college and they did let me graduate, so they couldn't have thought it was complete pants, right? (Or maybe they were more impressed with the quantity than the quality--436 SINGLE-SPACED pages and plot still nowhere near conclusion OH GOD)
For those curious about the content, let's just say that in some respects, Martin Millar's The Good Fairies of New York completely accidentally serves as a (hilarious, brilliant, I love this book) parody of some of my themes. No one in my novel wears a colostomy bag, though. More's the pity.
